Families Helping Families at the Crossroads Louisiana
is a non-profit Family Directed Resource Center
for individuals with special needs and their families. FHF was
founded in 1992 in Alexandria as part of a statewide network of family
resource centers. FHF is an organization of families who because
of their own experience, are aware of and committed to reaching out to
other families who have members with special needs. Special needs
include physical, mental, emotional, behavior and/or educational issues.
FHF is a place where families can go for help and understanding from
caring people who "HAVE BEEN THERE"
too.
Mission
The mission of FHF is to assist and strengthen
individuals and families with special needs through a coordinated
statewide network of resources, supporting and serving the parishes of
Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, La Salle, Rapides, Vernon and
Winn.
Objectives
1) To foster and to implement contact
between experienced and new parents of children with special needs so
each can benefit from the support by sharing ideas, knowledge, feelings
and experiences.
2) To help family members find personal
answers, decrease isolation and to increase a sense of personal control.
3) To offer families resources,
information and referral to services.
4) To bridge the gap between parents and
professionals.
5) To provide training in federal and
state laws which govern our state's responsibilities to individuals with
special needs.
6) To provide a safe forum for discussing
ongoing financial, social and emotional problems.
7) To provide feedback to the
professional community on the needs of families and individuals with
special needs.
8) To be an information and resource
center for the region.
